hodo kwaja

I read about these Walnut Cakes on chowhound, but I never got a chance to actually taste it. Even when I had class downtown, I was always too lazy to go or just never had the time to make my way there. Since Yoko and I were already in Korean-town, we decided to make our way over to try them. We bought 6.. I think it was 6 for a 1 or 1.5$. There were three flavours.. red bean paste, mashed potato & walnut and mashed potato & almond. The lady threw all them in one bag. It was very hard to distingush which was which. I think red bean was my favourite.

green tea eggtarts

I loveee eggtarts. I love the flakey ones.. they are the best! Anyways, I saw these one day at T&T, but I was too full to try it.
Though, Yoko and I decided to try it when she came to visit in January. Good thing we decided to share half, it just didn't taste right. I don't know how to describe it... except I will never eat it again.

fabian's cafe

Baby shrimps and egg sandwich

Tuna sandwich

Strawberry chocolate mousse and Apple flan

I haven't seen Allen for months!! We decided to meet up today since it was his day off. He came to pick me up at school and we were limited to the places within the vicinity of my school. I decided on Fabian's Cafe. Its this tiny homey place by Ellesmere and Markham Rd. So many old people and I guess locals eating there. It had this homey feel with many many desserts. The sandwiches were so small and overpriced, but the desserts totally filled us up. Maybe it was also because I wanted to try two different kinds.
The shrimp sandwich was definitely not worth the price, but the tuna was very yummy. It was very healthy and very good.
The strawberry mousse cake was not bad, but the apple flan was a disappointment. I wanted more apple flavour.. but it was lacking a bit.
Happy belated Allen! :)

nova era

My mom and I went shopping downtown on Sunday afternoon. She took me to little Italy in hopes to find boots for me. I don't ever recalling going to Little Italy, but I'm sure she took me when I was since we went to Chinatown quite often. There wasn't many stores and surprisingly, many were closed on Sunday. There were many restaurants that I recall reading about online. :) We pasted by Nova Era and I remember they were one of the two stores that are famous for their Custard Tarts. I dragged my mom in to try it. She' s not a food as like me.. she likes to eat, but she didn't seem to thrilled about this store. I bought one for her and one for me. They were a dollar each. I didn't have my camera, so I took a crappy picture with my phone. We ate it on the bus ride back to College Station. It was too sweet for both my mom and I. Though I did like the custard.. if only it wasnt as sweet. I found the pastry lacking a tiny bit.

rahier

As I mentioned previously, my sister and I decided to head over to Rahier for some desserts after our brunch and short tour on Bayview. I decided to have the Gabin with the mango mousse, while my sister opted for the Signoret with raspberry chocolate mousse. I found mine to be really sweet, but enjoyable. I really like how the dark chocolate and mango complement each other. My sister's Signoret was really good too. But because mine was really sweet, I couldn't really taste hers as well. From what she saids, its better than mine. Though I'm bias, I love how the sweet chocolate taste can make sour raspberry taste really good.We decided to buy the Pompadour for my mom and the Simpy Strawberry cake for my dad.

Signoret: Raspberry chocolate mousse, raspberry "cremeux" and sacher sponge cake

Gabin: Dark chocolate mousse, mango mousse and chocolate sponge cake

Pompadour: Pistachio butter cream, praline butter cream, Gianduga croquant and pistachio dacquoise
